The make-up saga

Right, if you come here fairly often or know me the slightest you've probably noticed make-up is not really my thing. I don't wear much and I don't post about it - mainly because I know very little about the subject. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those perfect little girls that are naturally tanned, with super long eyelashes and Adriana Lima's lips (yuk, hate this word!). But I guess I was quite blessed with my skin - or so my friends tell me - and therefore never learnt anything I should have! I blame the Mum and the Sister, that are exactly the same. My Mum goes crazy with a tiny bit of eyeliner every day and my Sister... Well my sister has a whole set of expensive make-up that gets used like once a month.

Even not knowing a thing about the subject, I do have mirrors and they do tell me I look like a glass of milk every day. I was blessed with the good skin but a very pale one. So since I've started working - and moved to London - I rarely leave the house without some bronzer or mascara (to make these little mouse's eyelashes look a bit more normal). On a night out, I go crazy with the eyeliner which I've only managed to learn how to use it about 2 years ago.

I've been using Sephora for like 3 years now. It's easy, not expensive and it lasts. I have the bronzer (darker than what it should be!) and the pink blusher to make me look a bit healthier. On top of this, I use Maybelline's mascara and one of two lipsticks that I carry all the time - a Barry M light pink one or one from Kiko that is slightly darker. This has been working for me up until now but I can't stop noticing, now that I look even more at pretty girls to check out their outfits, that some of them do look really good and their make-up looks even - unlike mine that I do on the train and you can almost see the brush format marked in my face. So, I finally gave up and agreed to sit in that awful chair at the make-up shop where they do whatever they want with your face. The girls suggested bareMinerals for something light.

I was so awkward they said I blushed! How ridic. I looked at the shop girl and she had an awful lot of make-up on. I clearly panicked and repeated 3 times I wanted something really simple and light that you could barely notice. And (surprisingly) she was actually good! Gave me a light foundation to match my skin colour and apply a super thin & even coverage. I obviously said that was way too light and I still looked like a ghost. Always so impatient! She then applied the bronzer on the T area and the magic happened: perfect healthy skin tone, not too orange and not too pale!

You can imagine it didn't take me long to fall in love with the shop as it's totally pink and princessy.

Result: brought with me the whole super pink Starters kit that is just about perfect! I'm in looove.

Starters kit (50£):
Original Mineral Foundation (N20)
Warmth All-Over Face Colour
Tinted Mineral Veil Finishing Powder
Foundation Primer
3 Brushes
Instructions & DVD (that I watched with the twin as soon as we got home, obvs)

Sooooo happy with my new make-up set it's unreal. Still don't go crazy and all orange face but definitely feel prettier (especially in the mornings!). Needless to say all the girls left the shop with a Starters kit except for the Bird, who should definitely get a referral fee for this!

Techno Berlin day’n’night

Hellooo! You all good? I am, trying to find time to write a bit on my lovely pink platform! Christmas’ madness is coming and with that, all the dinners and parties and crazy English celebrations that seem endless. I love it obvs. Still haven’t changed my ringtone to All I want for Christmas is you though…

That said, here are some snaps of my short-but-crazy Berlin experience. I was dyiiiing to go as everyone said it was this AMAZING thing. Well, as some of you already heard, I didn’t find it that super awesome bucket list type of thing. To be noted:

- I was only there for a weekend, meaning I had one full day to visit the main attractions;
- It was a girls weekend, just 2 of us, not big fans of techno clubs;
- We were based on the East side as it’s meant to be the good and fun one but then again they say that about East London and that’s just not true;
- It was 1 degree for most of the time… Nothing to add to that.

Now, my comments:

- The whole city was under building work. Maybe they have a specific time of the year when they start all the ‘refurbishing’ – is it for Christmas?!... Otherwise it’s just weird, complemented by random pipes in the middle of the roads that were only cool because they were pink;
- No one seems to know anything about the city. “Where can we find some places to shop?”, Hmm there’s nothing just a shopping centre; “Where can we go get a drink before going out in East?”, Hmm we don’t have bars, or coffees, or pubs – you just go mental with pills and alcohol to the prisons clubs, I presume?!;
- The Berlin Wall is tiny, thinner than a Victoria Secret model and probably not taller than the tallest guy on Guiness;
- The centre of East, Alexanderplatz (where we were staying) is like Colombo in the middle of 2a Circular. For the English people, it’s like 2 huge shopping centres in the middle of a motorway – gigantic buildings, with super large roads with like 5 lanes each way! Ines and I got there at 1am Friday and it was so deserted we thought we were in the furthest place possible from the centre.
- Lastly, as my friend Lightly said, it’s a city built on techno. Which sucks for someone that hates techno music. And techno people and clothes. But I guess I should have known that.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Don’t go Tresor if you don’t like techno and prison cells in general. Something I would like to have known beforehand.

Other than the above, we did have a good time. Loads of gossip, ate really well – the restaurants are amazing as they have all sorts of food in each place: Italian, tapas, sandwiches, fish, meat, all of it! And, more importantly, cocktails! Yoohoo! Met some cool people in an awesome shop I still need to advertise on the blog, lots of randoms on the tube (standard tourist!), more randoms outside the craziest club ever… All the perks of a girls city break really.

Enough with the talking, enjoy some photos! x

Berlin – I will come back, for a longer and maybe a bit more researched experience. If anyone is living in Berlin please let me know – I’m getting lazy and only visiting cities where I have wise friends to tell me where to go!

REST OR... Pretty people

Because I have such cool friends, had to add (autocorrect just wrote 'ass', so tempted to leave it!) some more photos of the party. This was another one of my mega-awesome-dj friend Chris' nights. They are usually pretty good but this time he exceeded himself when he played two of my FavSongOfTheDay tracks as part one of his sets: No Diggity and Look Right Through. Amaaazing. I'll leave you some of the outfits and photo poses...

Stuart didn't get the no-blood memo.

P.S. I've just made a dream come true by featuring Jacqui Bird (the sexy cat) on the pink blog.

The why.

It’s been a while since I wanted to start a blog. And by a while I mean about 5 years or more. The question has always been between the ‘About what?’ and ‘How do I fit it all in there?’. I’m sure this is no news to anyone who has a blog (or has tried to have one... and failed) but I get really itchy when I have to do something that millions have done before. It's like a disease spreading all over my body. Not really, but you get the idea. So let's try and make this a bit different. A bit more stupid. Anyway.

I’ve started to put together a Mind List – yes, I am a girl and I love lists but am also too lazy to write stuff down unless I have a new pink pad and/or pink pen (obsessions, obsessions, we’ll come to that…) – with everything I would like to cover in my blog. So we've got –
  • Fashion – that was easy. THE very first obsession and one of the main subjects of this blog. Please click the little cross on the top right corner of your screen if you don’t like fashion or you will be bored.
Within fashion, I also knew something else. By fashion I mean Street Fashion. You know, the kind of things we can all wear and look good every day so we don’t feel like the world is going down and we’re super mega depressed because there’s nothing to wear in that tiny (read: giant) wardrobe. Yes, that kind of Fashion. Not that I don’t like the whole couture, top models, super-duper famous fashion designers. It’s just because, let’s be honest, my wallet doesn't let me.Yet. It will, one day, and I will love writing about Chanel, Prada and Givenchy bags and Manolos or Louboutins that only Carrie Bradshaw can wear without breaking her feet. I might mention these now but it will probably under the title ‘Daddy I really want…’ rather than ‘Shopping from last week…’.
  • Girls’ Reality – that was also easy. The target of this blog was obvious from the very beginning. Boys, I will be more than happy for you to have a read – you might find some tips on how to survive the craziness of a girl or the next best gift for Birthday or Xmas (I hate Valentine’s Day) – but if you have a terrible fear of words like ‘period’, ‘cellulites’ or ‘pink’, I suggest you recommend this to your girlfriend/wife (obviously!) and go read Sky Sports. Or, you can just focus on the GeekFactOfTheDay section.
Let’s face it, we all have the same issues/dramas/stupidities/endless-problems-that-seem-very-big-but-are-not. There’s some of us a bit more crazy/mad/out-of-this-world or, as my sister like to call it in Portuguese, ‘destravadas e despachadonas’ (don’t translate, it won’t work) but at the end of the day we’ve all been there. So let’s get all our frustrations out so we don’t take it on our boyfriends that don’t (always) deserve it.
  • Gossip
Well… I’m not Blair Waldorf because I don’t have nearly as many fancy clothes (or just clothes full stop) or the pleasure to live in a gigantic Upper East Side mansion. But I do like a good story to start a day. Or finish. Or just at any time. So I'll probably make some comments to what's going on outside of my pink bubble, if I actually care. Some funny ones, nothing to be taken too seriously.
  • Portugal vs. London
I’m Portuguese. And I like it. I will complain about my country. And complain about the country I live in. I will also say lovely things and to-do things in both. And there will be words/posts in both languages. Mostly because there are words I have no idea how to say in English so I make them up. Biiiig time. I think this will end up being the very big purpose of my blog. I really want to be able to share my English frustrations by screaming in words every time someone asks me what are my plans for the weekend or what I've eaten for lunch. WHO THE HELL CARES. Anyway. I think I'll dedicate a post to that.

So that's pretty much it. For now.

Enjoy!

Little M ❤
